What’s been happening:

After working for several years as an Instructional Materials Designer for PSU's World Campus, in 1997 Fran founded BETUMI: The African Culinary Network (www.betumi.com), has authored several books on African food and culture and has become an international expert on the topic. In 2009 her blog(www.betumi.com/blog.html) was selected by University Review Online as one of the top 50 blogs for learning about Africa. She lives in State College with her husband, Prof. K. Osseo-Asare, writing and teaching about African cuisine. Daughter Abena is now married and a professor of history (U.C., Berkeley), daughter Masi continues her work in Arts Administration in New York City, as well as her creative work (e.g.,her spy musical "Sympathy Jones"), graduating architect son DK is beginning a Fulbright in Ghana (Sept. 2009), adopted nephew Ernest graduated from PSU in May 2008 with a degree in agricultural and bio-engineering and works for Merck in Lansdale, and adopted nephew Sam will be a junior at PSU in the fall of 2009.
